SunRise After-School Care Support

The SunRise After-School Care & Learner Support Facility situated at the Wapadrant Church in SunRise Road is currently open to needy children of all races in any primary school in the local community. The children however need to be referred to us by the local Social Worker at the school. At this stage we can unfortunately only provide transport for a maximum of 18 children from Laerskool Garsfontein. Other learners must thus be able to get to and from the after-school on their own every day. Services are provided by volunteers from within the community without any remuneration and are free of charge to these children. We are currently supporting 18 children at the facility referred to us by the Social Worker.

We strive to show compassion and love towards our less fortunate neighbours and thus bring harmony to our community.  To bring light to the lives of those in the dark by means of Evangelisation is our primary aim.

Eighteen children from a local primary school are being cared for, free of charge, through this program.  The After-School Care Centre operates from 13h00 to 17h30, from Monday to Friday, during school terms. The children were and are identified by a social worker at the school.

The children come from less fortunate and financially challenged  homes.  We provide these children, aged 5 to 12 years, with a balanced meal.  We also provide a wholesome playing area for their enjoyment to develop social skills and build self- esteem through small group involvement.  Volunteer workers assist them with their homework and offer arts and crafts, choir as well as other activities.  The volunteers also engage in regular ministry activities such as teaching the Bible, giving spiritual direction and cultivating biblical values.   When special needs are identified, e.g. counselling, the children and/or their parents are referred to professionals in our community who assist them free of charge. We also pay for remedial classes, occupational therapy, speech therapy and math classes, these are all funded with donations from the community.

Wapadrant Church also provides transport, free of charge, from their Primary Schools to the church premises, where the After-School is located.

We rely on donations from individuals and businesses in the local community.
